After our client was arrested for transporting more than 200 pounds of marijuana from California to Florida, he was charged with a federal drug offense. The case was litigated for two years. We were able to convince the government to reduce the charge to operating as an airman without an appropriate certification in relation to a drug offense. However, despite reducing the offense, the Federal Sentencing Guidelines still called for a sentence of 30-37 months in prison. After presenting mitigating factors, the Court sentenced our client to 2 years of probation, 40 hours of community service, a fine and 10 months of home confinement.
Our client, who operates a wind turbine company in California, will be able to continue to run his business and support his employees. We are grateful for the trust our client placed in Haas Law and we look forward to obtaining more successful results for our clients in the future.
